OBJECTIVES
As part of a strategic initiative to enhance store control, ensure design consistency, and streamline lease verification across North America, our firm was mandated to carry out detailed 3D scans of retail buildings throughout the United States. The primary objective was to deliver highly accurate spatial documentation—regardless of location or store typology—to the client’s international head office. This data would support better cross-border coordination, asset tracking, and the implementation of a unified design standard across their U.S. retail network.
METHODOLOGY
To address the challenges of a geographically dispersed portfolio, our mobile scanning team was deployed nationwide, equipped with Matterport scanners and LiDAR technology. Each store was meticulously captured using a combination of 360° high-resolution imagery and point cloud data, enabling the creation of precise digital twins for every location.
These 3D scans and digital twins of buildings were uploaded within hours of capture to cloud platforms, providing real-time access to interactive virtual walkthroughs. This fast, cloud-based delivery allowed stakeholders across time zones to collaborate efficiently. Our team’s bilingual capabilities and experience with international coordination were instrumental in maintaining communication fluidity and ensuring project accuracy.
RESULTS
This multi-site retail 3D scanning project underscores the value of our globally integrated and agile documentation workflows. By combining on-site expertise with advanced cloud tools, we empowered the client’s design and operations teams to oversee multiple U.S. retail locations remotely—enhancing efficiency and reducing delays.
Ultimately, this initiative ensured store compliance, improved design uniformity, and enabled more effective asset and facility management. It also set the foundation for accelerated store rollouts, cost-efficient renovations, and smarter planning.
